Affirmations. You hear about them all the time. Maybe they sound like an fluffy, woo-woo thing to you. Or maybe you’ve never heard of them before, but you’re looking to deepen your personal development practices. Either way, let’s talk about it.
As an Enneagram 3, eldest daughter, Capricorn entrepreneur, sometimes the personal development stuff gets put on the back burner for me. My just-power-through, white-knuckling tendencies sometimes cause me to neglect some of the mindful practices other entrepreneurs are so diligent in practicing.
So trust me when I say, as a certified skeptic, affirmations work! Especially for female entrepreneurs, hear me when I say, you deserve to pour into yourself and work on your mindset.
Let’s dig into some affirmations for female entrepreneurs and how you can start an affirmation practice.
How do affirmations work?
Think of affirmations as a workout for your mind. Just like building muscle, consistently practicing affirmations actually rewires your brain’s neural pathways (which is like muscle memory, but for your brain.)
When you repeat statements about yourself and your business, you’re essentially training your brain to adopt these beliefs as truth.
But it’s not just positive fluff and #goodvibes – it’s backed up by science too. Research shows that affirmations activate areas in your brain associated with positive self-worth and reward.
When you practice affirmations regularly, you’re literally creating new thought patterns that support your goals and boost your confidence.
For female entrepreneurs especially, we often battle internalized limiting beliefs without even realizing it.
If you’ve ever thought (consciously or subconsciously) things like “what if they think I’m too arrogant for talking about this?” or “I bet they’re judging me for my pricing” or “I can’t create a business like hers because of x,y,z…” you’re probably dealing with some limiting beliefs.
Affirmations help counter these negative thought patterns by consciously replacing them with beliefs that benefit you and your business.
Why should female entrepreneurs start an affirmation practice?
Like going to the gym, affirmations are best used often and over time. Incorporating them into a daily practice can help rewire your brain faster and more effectively.
And to be clear, there really is no right or wrong way to practice affirmations. You have to find what works for you.
But investing in yourself by using affirmations (even if it’s only a couple of minutes a day) can help grow your confidence, your creativity, and your business. As a female entrepreneur, you are just as deserving of success and happiness as anyone else. Affirmations are just a simple tool to help you get that success and happiness.
If you’re ready to incorporate more affirmations in your life, here are some options for you:
- Journaling
Of course, there are a lot of talk about journaling and the benefits of a daily journaling practice. Keeping a practice of journaling and writing down some affirmations each day helps with neuroplasticity. As in, it helps rewire your brain faster if you write down your affirmations each day, vs just thinking about them.
BTW, I’ve got you covered if you want some journaling prompts specifically for entrepreneurs.
- Voice recordings
Another popular method of incorporating affirmations into your routine is by creating a voice recording of yourself reading your affirmations. Both the action of speaking them out loud and listening to your own voice are effective ways of telling your brain it’s time to rewire some stuff!
Basically, your brain wants to believe what you say. So drilling it in by speaking and listening to yourself helps move that convincing along.
- Sticky notes
This is a simple one, but writing down some of your favorite affirmations on sticky notes and putting them in relevant places can help your brain absorb them more easily. Put your best business affirmations on stickies by your desk, your personal image affirmations on your bathroom mirror, and your most ambitious affirmations in your car.
Also, I recommend swapping out your sticky note affirmations semi-frequently, simply because your brain gets used to them after a while, and starts not “seeing” them, ya know?
- Habit stacking
This is a practice of pairing habitual things you do with habits you want to adopt in order to make it easier on yourself. For example, drinking a glass of water with your morning coffee in order to keep up with your hydration goals.
You can incorporate affirmations with other habits as extra practice for getting these positive affirmations in your brain, such as reciting your affirmations or listening to your affirmation recording when you do the dishes each day.
- Meditation
Meditation is a great practice that has some serious benefits, but is often overcomplicated by people who are looking to make it a habit. You don’t have to meditate for hours at a time for it to be effective.
My favorite way to meditate is usually by putting on my noise-canceling headphones, some binaural beats, and setting a timer for 5-10 minutes. During this time, I meditate on my chosen affirmations or theme for the day. Then I’m done! Easy-peasy.
