And though I've been writing in online spaces since 2016 (RIP angsty college blog), my journey to calling myself a writer was a long one. I took countless acting classes, wrote plays, and literally got a degree in theatre (#theatrekid), but still didn't call myself a storyteller.
Not long after I quit my 9-5, I was casually helping a friend with her resume.
I thought it was pretty fun- tweaking her words, selling her skills, really hyping her up to the hiring manager.
Then she burst into tears right next to me on the couch.
"I have skills!" she cried.
This was obvious to me, but not yet to her. My words helped show her and everyone else the value she had to offer.
(She got the job, by the way.)
