One thing I’ve noticed as a copywriter is that industries who heavily focus on visuals (interior designers, photographers, videographers) often struggle with their written content.
Interior design blog ideas tend to be few and far between when you’re mainly focused on sharing images of your work.
However, since visual industries tend to be so focused on sharing images, really nailing down your copy and content writing can put you miles ahead of the competition.
And as a copywriter who looooves working with interior designers and other visually focused creatives, I’ve got your back.
You’re in the right place for better blogging.
Why should interior designers be blogging?
A better question would be: who shouldn’t be blogging?
Blogging is such a beneficial way to grow your business, boost your visibility, and provide value to your audience.
And since most interior designers want to be the first result to show up on Google for your area when people google “interior designer near me,” it’s pretty much a no-brainer to start blogging.
For interior designers specifically, blogging can help you:
- Show up higher on Google (for Local SEO especially)
- Grow your email list
- Make you look legit for PR opportunities
- Demonstrate your expertise
- Expand your reach and opportunities
- Get more design clients.
It’s one thing to look like the best interior designer in your area. It’s quite another to have dozens of blog posts demonstrating that you are the best interior designer around.
So basically, there is no downside to blogging. It’s the most sustainable way to grow your business and your reach long term.
Convinced? I hope so. Let’s dig into what the heck you should be writing about for your interior design blog.
The most important thing to remember is that there is always an abundance of blog post ideas. Not every blog post has to be editorial-level production. Some of the best blog posts are simply you sharing your thoughts, ideas, and insight as an expert.
(BTW, here is my recommended blog post writing template you can use to write these posts.)
Before you write a blog post for your interior design business, you should think about…
- Who is the target audience for this post?
- Is there and SEO keyword or search query I’m targeting?
- What action do I want them to take at the end of this blog post?
These crucial questions will help people not just read your blog post and leave, but actually get them to follow through on engaging with your brand.
I usually recommend directing people towards getting on your email list, typically by sharing a freebie they’ll want to opt in to or by hyping up how great it is to be a subscriber to your newsletter.
This way, you can nurture leads and get them more familiar with you and your brand. It’s much easier to convert them into a client once they’re in love with you.

If you’re anything like the other interior designers I’ve worked with, you probably know how to pick a paint color and how to style a mantel, but the words to describe how amazing you are? That’s a little harder.
