5 Reasons Why You Should Be On Threads for Your Service-Based Business

Let’s get one thing clear: I am not a social media girlie.

I know you know the feeling. The pressure to post, the disappointment when it doesn’t take off, the frustration with trends and the algorithm.

Social media isn’t my favorite thing in the world.

However, I freaking love Threads.

For those who aren’t familiar, Threads is basically the Meta knock-off of Twitter/X. Your threads account is automatically linked to your Instagram account, and the two work in tandem really well.

However, since I don’t have a history of using Twitter/X, (and therefore don’t have the sour taste in my mouth about the platform that so many people have) Threads was super exciting for me when I first joined.

Now, I feel very strongly that Threads is a no-brainer for creative, service-based businesses. Here’s how I’m going to convince you to join me over there!

BTW, follow me on Threads. You should follow me on Instagram too while you’re at it.

“Ugh, Delaney, is it really worth it to get on yet *another* social media platform?”

That’s really the biggest thing whenever a new social media platform launches: the exhaustion of having yet another platform to worry about.

That was why I held off on getting on Threads for so long too.

And for once in my life, I was definitely wrong to wait.

Now, I’m not going to tell you that Threads is something you have to get on for your business. It’s vital to do what works for your brain when marketing your business.

For someone like myself, who’s good at writing and communicating, Threads is a great fit. The casual atmosphere means I don’t have to overthink my content, and I don’t put nearly the same effort into Threads that I do for Instagram or blogging.

What’s most important is that you’re on platforms that are easy, fun, and lucrative for your business.

For me, Threads is definitely a no-brainer. So if your brain is kind of like mine, it will probably be a good fit for you too.

Why you should be on threads for your creative small business

Because I know that you only have so much time in a day, and you’re probably not able to be on every platform out there, here is my official pitch to convince you to join Threads.

(And trust me, I was completely surprised by how much I loved it. You might be surprised too.)

1. To connect with new clients (obviously)

Ok, this is the most obvious reason to get on Threads, but it’s to get more clients!

Since Threads is a written platform, it obviously makes sense that someone like a copywriter would do well there.

To be clear, though, connecting with more clients doesn’t always look like posting and watching clients magically flood your inbox and DMs.

Connecting with more clients on Threads looks like:

  • Posting valuable and insightful content
  • Replying to and engaging with other people’s content
  • Sharing advice when relevant
  • Giving a behind-the-scenes look at your work
  • Having your mutuals recommend you
  • Connecting with people who’re in a similar industry
  • Sparking ideas for collaboration

Like any platform, you can’t just post-and-ghost and expect to be successful.

Luckily, engaging on Threads is a lot easier and more casual than any other platform I’ve found so far, which makes it a no-brainer for me.

2. Getting visible (with minimal effort) is easy on Threads

Have you ever wished there was a social media platform with a similar algorithm to TikTok, where your content was pushed out to people who were a good fit, without relying on a huge following to look legit to the platform? But you don’t want to make video content, you want to write?

That’s basically Threads.

Listen, we know Instagram used to be the place to get a lot of new eyes on your business.

It can still be that place, it’s just a lot harder now. Unless you’re a pro at hitting the explore page, building an Instagram following isn’t easy or fast.

However, Threads pushes your content out to people who will resonate with it, whether they’re following you or not.

From there, many people will find your Instagram since it’s connected to your Threads, but I’d also recommend pinning your email list or freebie at the top of your Threads profile to nurture more leads.

3. Threads is a great place to connect with your local community

There are probably people in your local community who are looking to connect with you on Threads.

Businesses, service providers, creatives, non-profits, artists, and more all within your community are on Threads.

I’ve personally made friends on Threads that have translated into IRL friendships, have found new local networking opportunities, different entrepreneurship groups to join, and have found local referral partners and clients on Threads.

You can start by posting just that you’re looking to connect with other business owners in your area, but you can also just start talking about local attractions or events and see who lands in your comment section.

4. It’s a great way to find podcast, speaking, or PR opportunities

IF NOTHING ELSE you should be on Threads because people are always looking for guests for their podcasts, collaborators, or contributors on a project over on threads.

The algorithm, again, is so much better at organically pushing this content out to people who are right for it.

I’ve personally used threads to book podcast opportunities, sometimes because I suggest an idea to someone with a podcast, sometimes because people post their podcast submission forms, and sometimes because of threads like this:

5. It can drive traffic to both your website and your Instagram

Since Threads is a great top-of-funnel tool, you can use it to get more traffic to your website and Instagram alike, and nurture your audience from there.

When you’re creating content for Threads, I’d recommend a split of humanizing/relatable content and content that drives people to your services.

For myself, I talk about the benefits of having a website, the impact it can have on your business, and my takes on copywriting.

The rest of my content is basically my intrusive thoughts.

That’s my strategy!

Every business owner loves getting more visibility, but make sure your website is set up to convert traffic from Threads

Here’s the tea: like any platform, growing on Threads definitely runs the risk of you building a following, but not actually getting business from that platform.

In fact, I see it all the time: people get popular on Threads for being funny or educational, but that doesn’t actually get people to book their services.

Before you start experimenting with a new platform, you should make sure your website is set up to convert traffic (from Threads, or anywhere else)

Because that would kinda suck, right? To build all that visibility on Threads, but not get any clients from it?
